Masonic Reversing Candle?
Brother Carlos Castillo in Austin, Texas posted this on a Masonic forum today. H.E.B., a local grocery store chain in Texas, has a religious section, with devotional candles. I have never encountered a "reversing candle" before, much less one with Masonic symbols, and it seems to be a Hoodoo or Wicca item designed to remove curses, jinxes, or bad luck.
I. Have. No. Idea.

Maybe it is used to exorcise the faith, hope ,and charity right out of us.
ReplyDeleteAs you know, Freemason's don't have a monopoly on symbols like the all-seeing eye of providence, keys, crosses or interlaced geometry (like our sign of the intertwined square and compasses). the two tones (red and black), the interlacing, the reversed arrows, all signs of one thing becoming another, transmutation, the 'uncrossing' of energy -- kinda like what you thought were masonic symbols, becoming what you think are hoo-doo symbols... Its somebody applying the language of symbolism to give concrete expression to their desire or wish...rather positive if you keep an open mind about it...
ReplyDeleteIt’s a the eye known for evil eye removes and reverses curses and from those who do witchcraft on you. It sends it back to the enemy., the key is an opener meaning opening new beginning from what was blocked from the dark craft or energy., and the cross represents faith.

ReplyDeleteI believe Bro. Chris posted this in levity. I used to be heavily into new agey occult stuff, and indeed a symbol (of any kind really) just focuses your mind.
Reversing candle, does that mean it burns both ways?
ReplyDeleteJust askin.
Apparently from the position of the S & C it can only be used in one specific degree....
ReplyDeleteTo my eyes it's reminiscent of Masonic symbolism, but not the same. Still, a bit freaky.
ReplyDeleteThese sort of candles (spells, good luck, house blessing etc) are very popular in places that have any significant population of people practicing some form of Afro-Carribean diasporic religion. Same section of the store sells florida water for magical/religious purposes.
ReplyDeleteLOL @ Bro. Castaneda. Perhaps William Wirt has something to do with these?
ReplyDelete@ Br. Tatman:
ReplyDeleteLet's not lose our heads over this, now. ...
I've seen these in the Haitian Masonic Botanica Supply Stores in Miami.
ReplyDeleteNotice that the "square and compasses" on the reversing candle really aren't. They are actually two angled arrows that mimic a similar symbol, but that are definitely NOT square and compasses. So this is obviously not Masonic.
