News is coming out of Texas that the MW Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Texas has voted at their mid-winter session to allow visitation from the mainstream Grand Lodge of Texas AF&AM, and is waiting to see if it is reciprocated.
Several years ago, the two grand lodges agreed to recognize each other without visitation. If this gets accomplished, it will be a big step forward in the South.

Vote yes my Fraternal Brothers!!!
ReplyDeleteBaby steps but still progress.
ReplyDeleteIt boggles my mind how in this day and age, the PHA Masons are still unrecognized in some United States Grand Lodges. A Brother is a Brother no matter what. Remember our ethics my Brothers! Regardless of race, religion, creed, or nationality! Bro. Dave Maloney, Junior Deacon, Mt. Zion Lodge #311 of Troy, New York. SMIB!
ReplyDeleteBrother David Maloney,
ReplyDeleteAs a Texas mason, I'm very much inclined to agree with you -- but it's worth noting that the official line from the GL of TX AF&AM is that it only recognizes one grand lodge for a given territory.
Of course, one may debate the reasons why, but that's the way it is -- and if it's in the Grand Lodge Law, changing it won't be as simple as a vote.
Also, this being Texas, and having seen the attitudes of some Texas Masons on the matter, I have my doubts that a positive vote would be reciprocated in any case.
All that being said, GL of TX AF&AM has recognized the right for the MWPHGLOTX to exist, so that's something - a step in the right direction. Frankly, if one thinks through the implications of this coupled with the above, the dominoes are set up to fall - but the right people need to think through the implications for that to happen.

ReplyDeleteI guess it never occurred to GL of TX that they existed long before GL of TX granted them that "right".
Very true. I mean if you really think about it, Prince Hall Masons have been around well before the Grand Lodge of Texas even existed. It should be the other way around. Prince Hall Masons should have been the ones voting on the recognition and visitation of the Grand Lodge of Texas if you really want to get technical.
