Netflix Offering 'Inside The Freemasons'

Netflix has started streaming availability of "Inside the Freemasons," the five-part documentary shown in England on Sky1 network during the United Grand Lodge of England's 300th anniversary celebration last year. The program was that rarest of television treatments of the fraternity - calm, even-handed, truthful - and features numerous Masons throughout England discussing their membership. It was created with the cooperation of the grand lodge.

That said, there's a certain wry irony that Netflix has labeled the series as "controversial."

Why?

Because they say it is.

See it HERE. A subscription is required.

  1. Another chance for me not to see it. I don't have Netflix. I bought the DVD, but they didn't mention that, even though it was being shipped to the US, it was in European format that won't play on American equipment.

    1. Hey Brother;
      This isn't related to the topic at hand, but for the record you *can* buy DVD/Blu Ray players that have been "hacked" to play all regions of DVD's etc; I know its another expense, but I'm just throwing that out there. The quality is same as if it was built that way; I got one several years ago for some horror films and British TV shows that weren't available in the states. Comes in very handy! Your usage may or may not justify the cost....either way, just trying to help!

  3. Mike Innis FC. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I think it did the Craft proud and hopefully dispelled some of the nonsense.

  4. This series is basically an advertisement for the Masons. It makes me wonder who exactly is behind this series...um...let's guess...Masons? It barely covered the negative aspects of an exclusive secret society. It didn't really cover how it discriminates against women. It made it sound like women didn't want to join, which I don't believe at all. It said it gave inside access but it was limited. It really didn't show anything new.

    1. What sort of "new" information were you hoping for? You seem to know all about the downside of the fraternity already because all of Freemasonry's perceived warts are aggressively bandied about by the media in a vain hunt for villainy. So this series was a refreshing departure from the usual spate of anti-Masonic bile that usually clutters up the airwaves and the Internet. Nice to see the good side depicted for a change.

    3. In the U.S. that is largely true. But outside of the U.S. the OES is largely unknown (and even prohibited) and Co-Masonry and Female Freemasonry are not at all unusual. In France, for instance, more than 20% of all Masons are women.

  5. It's a controversial topic because masonry has always been obscure to those who don't know any better. It's up to the craft to let people know more about it. I am glad that Netflix and the Grand lodge of England were able to demonstrate to the public a different side of masonry.
