Brother Szramoski was most recently the Director of Development for the Supreme Council of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Southern Jurisdiction in Washington, D.C. Before that, he was Youth Programs Manager for the National Rifle Association.
In the Masonic world, he is the current Grand Senior Warden of the Grand Lodge AF&AM of Virginia and is Past Master of three Virginia lodges: Yorktown 205, John Blair 187, and Mount Vernon 219. In the York Rite, he is a Past Commander of Old Dominion Commandery 11, a Past High Priest of Uroy Harris Chapter 83 of Royal Arch Masons. He holds the Knight York Cross of Honor, a member of the Knight Masons, and a 33° Scottish Rite Mason (SJ).
Challenges face the new director. For example, the question of how the Memorial should handle the history of Prince Hall and women's Freemasonry, and the very sharp decline in influence and membership. The lack of diversity on the board is rather obvious, and related to the larger issue of the escalating decline and involvement of young people. The efforts of the Memorial to be relevant have had modest results, and the endowment is insufficient for meeting the future. How the Memorial will handle the grand lodges that de facto discriminate against Blacks and gays is in the longterm a threat to its tax status and potential power keg, In the Washington intellectual and cultural milieu, it has a very limited role despite efforts to be a player. Museums are no longer attics for relics but increasingly forced to be active in the real world to justify their existence.
