Thanks to Plymouth-Kilwinning Lodge #149

Had a terrific time at Indiana's Plymouth-Kilwinning Lodge #149 in the northern climes of Plymouth, Indiana last night. Many thanks to Most Worshipful Grand Master James Barkdull and the brethren of his home lodge for their generous hospitality. WM Rod Back and his lodge have much to be proud of, and they are definitely part of a growing group of lodges who have vision, enthusiasm and a proper understanding of the true tenets of Freemasonry.

By the way, I covet your officer's chairs - truly one-of-a-kind masterpieces.

Many thanks also to my good friends Wbros. Nathan Brindle and Jim Dillman for their friendship and their company on the long drive.

    Brother Hodapp, could you please elaborate on the true tenets of Freemasonry?

  2. As regards this reference, I am talking about:

    - The turnout of close to 40 brethren at the meeting, of all ages, which I was told is a usual occurrence;

    - The Master setting the lodge at ease after opening so everyone in the room can have a few minutes to meet and greet each other;

    - The elimination of the reading of minutes;

    - Money spent on charity;

    - Money spent for the upkeep and appearance of the lodge itself, with an eye for how their lodge looks to a new candidate;

    - Regular guest speakers for Masonic education...

    In short, a good balance of Brotherly Love (friendship), Relief (charity and concern for their ill members) and Truth (Masonic education).

    It seems to be working. They have an influx of new members, and good participation. Best sign of all? When the meeting ended, a dozen or so members remained more than an hour to keep enjoying each other's friendship.

    I can't think of a better symbol of success.
