BE A FREEMASON Saturday, August 14, 2010
Pennsylvania & Ohio Unity Night in New Castle, PA 9/14
Pennsylvania brethren of Mahoning New Castle Lodge No. 243, which meets at the beautiful New Castle Scottish Rite Cathedral, have invited Masons from Ohio and Pennsylvania to join them on Tuesday September 14, 2010 to celebrate Pennsylvania and Ohio Masonic unity.
Right Worshipful Grand Master Thomas K. Sturgeon and Officers of the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania will in attendance, as will Most Worshipful Grand Master Terry Posey and officers from Ohio.
Photographs will begin at 7:00 P.M., the meeting will begin at 7:30 PM, and a light meal will follow the meeting.
Ohio Masons are asked to notify their Grand Secretary’s Office as soon as possible by telephone 1-800-292-6092, or by email gkozak@freemason.com if you plan to attend.
The New Castle Scottish Rite Cathedral is located at 110 East Lincoln Avenue, New Castle, Pennsylvania. It is a magnificent facility, and has one of the largest auditoriums in western Pennsylvania. The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra frequently travels there for concerts. The brethren have maintained it beautifully and responsibly, and they have much to be proud of. And I covet their new air conditioning.
The city of New Castle itself is a great example of historic preservation on a grand scale. The downtown area shows the proud and loving care of a community that has adapted well from its manufacturing origins. Every corner brings a new surprise, and it is well worth a visit. And the best part of all is that New Castle is home to, not one, but two of the premiere fireworks companies in the world: Zambelli Internationale and S.Vitale Pyrotechnic Industries, Inc. (Pyrotecnico). Boom, baby!

Thou shalt not covet thy neighbors wife, house, car, or air conditioning, nor anything that is his....

If you spent any time on the 7th floor of Indiana Freemasons' Hall this summer, you would absolve me of my transgression. The whole building is uninhabitable for almost 1/3 of the year.
ReplyDeleteIt seems that air conditioning has been the topic for more than one lodge this year! Too bad that there is not a national 'fix the climate control' fund. It could be funded much like the Washington Masonic Memorial... :-)

There you go. We need about $2 million in Stimulus Money®.
ReplyDeleteSix years ago, when I was initiated, UGLE had all the asbestos removed from the heating system in Freemasons' Hall. All the heating was off in February. So the Tyler, myself, and my Masonic Twin who was initiated with me were huddled around a space heater outside the Temple trying to keep warm while we waited. So heaters AND A/C are both important.

Split it with you!
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this, Chris. I am planning to attend, as are several others from my lodge and district. Just a little correction, however: the Grand Master of Pennsylvania is the Right Worshipful Grand Master. Many of us in Pennsylvania take some pride in being rather unique in the US with regard to our ritual, etc. But, we still love our brethren in other jurisdictions despite their new fangled ways... ;-)

Richard, fixed it.
ReplyDeleteGeez, you Pennsylvania guys just do EVERYTHING wrong! Show some unity and do it OUR way! [smile]
I was there last night. What an uniquely exciting experience.
ReplyDeleteI, too, was there. I'm sorry I didn't find time to post last week. Apparently there were over 280 brethren present for a very enjoyable evening. Many expressed a desire to continue the event in the future, and hopefully we will be able to do so. Perhaps an Ohio Lodge will host the event next year--as we have been doing with a similar York Rite event. If it does continue, I hope the next time it is better publicized in Pennsylvania.
