Did people believe that stuff because of the book?

Conspiracy kooks gravitate to conspiracy kook material. A survey may find they believe in some Bush 9/11 conspiracy as outlined in a book or a website .. but only because they believed it before. That's why they got the book in the first place.

JustaStill Justa Masonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18251151452545005294noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25683662.post-45620469845051213232009-09-05T19:58:29.448-04:002009-09-05T19:58:29.448-04:00Chris, you are spot-on accurate regarding the powe...Chris, you are spot-on accurate regarding the power of a novel to affect real-world perceptions. People who say that The Lost Symbol is "just a novel" simply don't understand the power that literature has to affect perceptions and behaviors in the real world. The most obvious example: Abraham Lincoln's comment to the effect that Harriet Beecher Stowe's novel had had a prominent role in bringing about the Civil War.

I've spent a lot of time on the Dan Brown Facebook fan page over the last 2 months. I've been struck by how many people respond to Dan Brown as if what he wrote was the truth. I was also surprised to find out what a large fan base Dan Brown has internationally.

The Lost Symbol will shape the world's perceptions of Freemasonry for years. We as Masons need to be aware of this and take steps now to respond appropriately.

Thank you for sharing these thoughts with the Masonic world.Mark Koltko-Riverahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11173090767545559729noreply@blogger.com
